Mental Health problems are just like other health problems like blood pressure, Diabetes, obesity, and etc. In our daily life we faced a lot of such problem that we cannot easily discuss them with anyone. Here we just need to understand the mental health issues and accept them open heartedly. Then the next is treatment for these psychological issues. As other disorders have treatment similarly in case of mental health problem treatment is necessary it could be in the form of medicine, psychological therapies, different assessment test and other alternative interventions.
Usually whenever someone talked about therapy, psychotherapy people negatively associate it with crazy individuals and psychopaths. Some of common myths about psychotherapy are following:
· I don’t need a therapist. I am smart enough to resolve my problems.
· Therapy is for crazy people.
· Why should I go for therapy? It is all talking about parents, peers, and etc.
· It is only for complainers and whiners.
But reality is different in therapy/ psychotherapy/ talk therapy psychologist help people of all ages live happier, healthier, and more productive. It provides insight of the unresolved conflicts an individual fights with. Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment in which an individual and a psychologist built therapeutic relationship. It involves discussing problems from minor to minor (fight with friend, self-confidence, low self-esteem, anger) or severe to complex (Anxiety, depression, Insomnia) . In psychotherapy therapist provides a supportive environment and allows you to talk openly with someone who is non-judgmental and neutral, empathies your feelings and will say yes to your emotions.
According to Carl Jung:
“The principle aim of psychotherapy is not to transport one to an impossible state of happiness, but to help (the client) acquire steadfastness and patience in the face of suffering.”
Moreover, as we all different from one another so every individual’s problem is different than therapy used by therapist for every individual will unique. Psychotherapy involves various techniques according to the severity of problem. It is of different types like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Art Therapy, and REBT so many others. To conclude all this the basic aims of any psychotherapy are following:
Ø Minimize or eradicate the conditional environment that cause the problematic behavior
Ø Build Rapport
Ø Improving interpersonal and other competencies.
Ø Resolving handicapping or disabling inner conflict.
Ø Modifying inaccurate assumptions about oneself and one’s world
